Frequently Asked Questions
How many sessions will I need?
The number of treatments varies from person to person—even if two individuals share the same diagnosis. After your initial evaluation, Sunet will outline a likely treatment plan. Typically, patients require around 3 to 4 sessions, though this can vary depending on how long you’ve had the issue and how severe it is. Your progress will be reviewed at each visit, and if improvement stalls, your treatment strategy will be adjusted. If needed, a referral to a specialist may be considered.
Do I need a doctor’s referral to book?
Physiotherapists in South Africa are recognized as first-contact healthcare professionals, so generally you don’t need a referral to schedule an appointment. However, some Medical Aid Plans, such as Gems Emerald Value Plan, need a referral letter. if you do have one, please bring it along—it helps us coordinate with your referring doctor if necessary.
How long does each appointment take?
A physiotherapy session is generally 30 minutes long. If you need more time to address multiple concerns, extended sessions can be arranged with your physiotherapist. For your first appointment, we recommend arriving about 10 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes are ideal. If you’re being treated for neck issues, you may be asked to remove your top—don’t worry, we’ll provide a clean towel to maintain your privacy. For back or hip assessments, shorts may be needed. You’re welcome to bring your own, or we can supply a pair.
Should I bring any scans or medical documents?
Yes, if you have any relevant x-rays, scans, or medical reports, please bring them along—they can be very helpful in guiding your treatment.
Can I use my Medical Aid to pay?
We offer direct billing to Medical Aids. Please bring your Medical Aid and ID card to your appointment, and we will submit the claim for you. If your plan does not cover the full amount, you will be liable for the outstanding balance. Coverage and shortfalls vary depending on your specific plan.
How are account statements handled?
We send out weekly statements to all patients with outstanding balances via email and sms.
What are your payment policies?
If you do not have a Medical Aid, you will be charged our standard private rate for treatment. Full payment is required after each treatment session. Credit card facilities are offered.
